It remained a militarized zone for a long time, and is now every tourists' dream. One must visit the Dutch Fort and the various Churches on the seaside. The preserved ruins of the civil war are interesting, if you fancy history.

Colombo is the capital city of Sri Lanka and a gateway to the entire country. It is also a very important commercial port. Some of the places to visit are Lavinia beach, which showcases the British colonial buildings, the Independence Square & the Swami Devasthanam Kovil temple. Several other tourist cities like Kandy are within driving distance.
